We are committed to ensuring a safe and happy environment for your child.
We support your child’s health and safety through a range of strategies including:
- the behaviour code for students, which outlines the standards of behaviour expected in all NSW public schools
- anti-racism education
- anti-bullying programs
- conflict resolution and mediation training
- peer support
- road safety education
- the Healthy School Canteen Strategy.
For more information, visit the student wellbeing section of the department’s website.
Like all NSW public schools, we promote the healthy development of students through:
- school programs and practices that protect and promote health and safety
- supporting individual students who need help with health issues
- providing first aid and temporary care of students who become unwell or who have an accident at school.
Student wellbeing
Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students.
The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.
The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allows them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.
Bungendore Public School Student Counselling Service
NSW public schools provide a student counselling service to support students in their learning and wellbeing needs. However, schools are currently not resourced to be able to offer a full-time counselling service and rely on a triage system. The School Counsellor is part of the Learning and Support Team.
Teacher Referrals
Generally, a teacher will identify a student’s learning and/or wellbeing need and make a Classroom Teacher referral to the Learning and Support Team who meet weekly. After the student’s needs are discussed, the referral may be referred on to the School Counsellor, or to other members of the Learning and Support Team.
Parent Referrals
A parent may choose to make a direct referral to the School Counsellor regarding a concern that they believe is separate to the classroom. Parent referrals are available from the School Office. After receiving the Parent Referral, the School Counsellor will contact the parent and together collaborate on a course of action. This might be an agreement that the School Counsellor works with the child (and parent), for example, an emergency situation, or that the child is referred to an appropriate agency, for example, ongoing wellbeing issues such as anxiety.
For all issues related to the classroom, parents are strongly encouraged to speak with their child’s classroom teacher or the principal, before making a counsellor referral.
**Please note that there is currently a waitlist for counselling at the moment. If you feel that you need emergency assistance please contact the front office at 62381317 for further advice.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.
